Welcome to the 23rd annual Triangle J Ranch Bull Sale. It has been a challenging year with the drought and higher feed prices, but the long summer is over and it is time to look to the future.
The facts are that before the drought, cow numbers were extremely low. After this summer, every old cow, poor producing cow, and of course open cows were sold for slaughter. In some situations, good quality cows had to be sold. It is obvious to everyone that with cow numbers this low; we will continue to see a very profitable future in the cattle industry. Quality bull purchases will be extremely advantageous in maximizing profits.
As you look through the catalog, you will see that we have again done everything possible to use the best genetics available to improve quality, expand numbers, and find outcross bloodlines for our old customers. Our intense embryo program gives you a great opportunity to buy full brothers in volume from some of the elite donor cows in the breed. Our sire choices are required to produce offspring that will thrive in a real world environment. We try to use proven predictable genetics with balanced EPDs that will maximize profitability for our commercial customers.
Call us anytime to discuss your particular bull needs, or stop by the ranch ahead of the sale to analyze the bulls at your convenience. Thank you for your interest in our Triangle J program.

For those of you that have not met Jeremy Cast, we want to introduce him to you and thank him for everything he has
done for us. Jeremy has been our herdsman for the past 5 years. He has a great passion for the cattle business and has a great knowledge of our cow herd, bloodlines, and goals of our operation. Its enjoyable to work with someone that shares the excitement and enthusiasm that we have for the cowherd. Sometimes the hours are long, so we thank his wife, Brooke, for her understanding.
If you get a chance, introduce yourself to Jeremy and his family on sale day. He is with the cattle every day, and we trust his judgment. Be confident to ask Jeremy a question sale day, you will get a knowledgeable, honest answer.
Thank You Cast Family!

The Judy and
Line Ranch was
founded in 1887
when Roy Judy
purchased land
from the
railroad and
began raising
Shorthorn
cattle. A
generation
later, his
daughter Irma
and her husband
Azale Line took
up the family
business and
starting using
Hereford cattle.
When their son,
Doug, and his
wife, Dixie,
took the reins,
they brought in
Angus cattle to
produce a black
white face F1
cross. The
tradition
continues with
me, Darby, and
my wife, Annette
doing business
as Triangle J
Ranch.
We introduced
Simmental to the
ranch, with the
initial group
being made up of
the old red and
white spotted
cows. We have now transitioned
to black-hided
cattle to
fulfill the
needs of our
customers. We
run about 700
head of
cattle--500
registered (300 Simmental,
200 Angus) and
200 commercial
cows. The bulls
range from 1/2
blood Simm/Angus
to purebred
Simmental and
Angus.
The Triangle J
Ranch Sale is
located on the
family farm, 35
miles northwest
of Kearney, NE.
The sale is
annually the
last Sunday in
January.
Approximately
200 yearling
bulls sell each
year. We do all
the preparations
for the sale
from getting the
cattle ready, to
preparing the
sale catalog, to
cooking the meal
for sale day.
Commercial
cattlemen are
the main focus
of our breeding
program. Most of
our customers
are local, but
we do have a
number of
out-of-state
buyers who come
back year after
year.
We have also
been fortunate
enough to place
a number of
bulls in many
of the popular
bull
studs.
We attribute our
family's success
to our intensive
artificial
insemination
(AI) and embryo
transfer (ET)
program. In
2010 we will be
transferring
over 150 embryos
into our
commercial cows
in order to
improve quality
and to meet the
increasing
demand for Sim\Angus
genetics.
Our goal is to
produce females
with fleshing
and milking
ability that
raise calves
that weigh
heavier at
weaning. We also
look for
moderately
framed, thick,
high-performing
cattle. Most of
the cattle for
sale are both
Homozygous
Polled and
Homozygous Black
and are
solid-colored.
Not only do we
strive to
provide our
customers with
more uniform
cattle, but we
also try to
follow up with
our customers
after the sale.
When we aren't
tending to the
cattle, we're
busy with our
children's
interests in
agriculture,
school, and
sports. The
boys are
involved in
football,
basketball,baseball,
and track. They
are also very
active in 4-H,
FFA and attend
numerous
livestock
judging
contests. Our
oldest son
Travis will be
attending
college this
fall with a
livestock
judging
scholarship.
For more than
100 years, our
family has
survived in
central Nebraska
through our
commitment to
our customers
and breeding
quality cattle.
We welcome
visitors any
time. We would
love to give you
a herd tour! |
